DANCE
AT OAKCREST HIGH SCHOOL
The Oakcrest High School dance program offers two types of dance classes. In Dance, students learn the main dance techniques; Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-hop and Tap. They also learn dance history, social dance, anatomy for the dancer, basic composition skills and how to critique a dance work of art. They participate in two annual dance concerts. Dance Composition is for the more advanced dance student.
As well as expanding on their technical dance training, these students learn how to choreograph their own dances and they present these dances in the annual Winter Dance Concert.
They also perform in the Spring Dance Concert and the Dancing with the Staff event. The after school dance team provides more performance opportunities for serious dance students. The team holds auditions each fall and performs at school pep rallies and community events. They also perform in all Dance Concerts. The Dance Team recently won first place at the Mays Landing Halloween Parade!
